![]() They are very imaginative and their parents Bandit and Chili are the type of parents you’d want to be friends with and aspire to be more like as a human. Like, I’ve never watched an animated show in which I’ve coveted the animated furnishings (except for maybe Peppa Pig’s camper van, which could double as a mobile she shed that I could disappear into whenever the members of my household got too loud or demanding), but I would legit Pin-terest their whole house if I could. The mid-century modern light fixture in their living room? The coolest. And don’t even get me started on the the stained glass transoms! The alpine-inspired cutouts over the doorways? Whimsical. We watch a lot of “Bluey” around here, which is easy to do because each episode is less than 10 minutes long. ![]() The show focuses on these pockets of everyday experience. Waiting for take out (or, “Takeaway,” rather).Ī visit to the local home improvement store (it’s called the Hammerbarn – if you’ve been into a Lowes or a Home Depot, it’s the animated version of that). There’s an entire episode focused on Bluey and Bingo trying not to let a balloon touch the ground for a game called Keepy Uppy. Any episode where Bluey and Bingo pretend to be their Grannie alter egos Rita and Janet is highly amusing. “Bluey” always leads with imagination, humor, and relatable life situations. And it never shies away from big feelings and tender, earnest humanity (albeit in dog form). The show already has a wide Australian fanbase, and hopefully this will become a huge hit in the United States of America, hopefully it will beat out Peppa Pig and dethrone that wicked tyrant once and for all.Which brings us back to “Sleepytime,” an episode that perfectly captures the long nights of early parenthood. Since Elena of Avalor and The Lion Guard are sadly both ending after season 3 (check the MooseZeeOnNickJr Facebook page), this show and TOTS are the current best Disney Junior shows, even though this show is an acquired property and not a Disney original. It reminds me of shows like Recess, Codename: Kids Next Door, Hey Arnold, Craig of the Creek and Clarence. For example, a game of keeping the balloon in the air later becomes a matter of life and death. Almost every episode emphasizes playtime in a grand manner. Young kids should go outside, play and just let their imaginations run wild instead of staying inside and watching crappy Elsagate channels on YouTube. My most favorite thing about the series is that it depicts play in a positive light. ![]() ![]() Sometimes they don't get along, but they always love each other. ![]() They aren't an abusive, dysfunctional family, or an overly perfect family, but they reflect real families. We need more tomboy characters in mainstream preschool shows. There are no stereotypes or cliches for example, Bandit (Blue's father) isn't a bumbling buffoon, Chili (Blue's mother) isn't a subservient weakling, Bingo (Bluey's sister) isn't a bratty half-pint, and Bluey isn't a girly-girl, for once. The series is the perfect show about families. I've been hearing rave reviews for the series, so I was excited for it to premiere. I'm one of the few Americans in this review section, since this particular cartoon, which originates from Australia, didn't premiere in the USA until 9 September 2019 on the Disney Junior. ![]()
